MARCH NEWS

We have been very busy with our guided reading groups every day. Thank-you for remembering to send the bookbags daily and for all of the reading at home.

We have finished our SOLAR SYSTEM unit and have begun a unit in Social Studies on HERITAGE. I will be asking for some family pictures and news later in the unit.

We also just wrapped up our GEOMETRY unit in Math. We have a projector in our classroom and we use it many times throughout the day to visit websites and watch interesting videos about math, nutrition, getting along, other countries and how people live, and the list goes on and on.

In Health we have started learning about NUTRITION and how to eat to be healthy and strong. We will be having a healthy snacks day and learning about great breakfast and snack ideas.

We are looking forward to the SWAP MEET on Friday.

Healthy Snack Ideas

Snack Tips
Plan snacks with your child and allow for some choices.
When shopping, let children help pick out fruits, vegetables, and cheeses for snacks. They will be more interested in eating these foods if they have been involved in selecting them.
Set aside a "snack spot" in the refrigerator and cupboard; keep it stocked with nutritious, ready-to-eat snacks. Then let your child pack their own snack for the day.
Avoid high sugar, fatty and salty snacks.
Plan snacks to help meet the suggested number of servings per day from the Food Rainbow.
Never offer junk food as a reward for good behavior.
Ask your child if they see others eating snacks that they might like.
Offer a special "surprise snack" once in a while.
Write an "I love you" note and slip it into your child's snack bag!

We have started a geometry unit in math. We have been watching videos from a discovery website and here we are using geoboards and elastics to experiment with shapes:
